Telangana Acb Officials Arrest Cyber Security Bureau Inspector In Hyderabad Bribery Case

HYDERABAD:  The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested Bathula Mahendar, an Inspector of Police with the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe to keep a complainant’s family members and friends out of a cyber fraud case.

According to the ACB, Mahendar sought ₹9 lakh from the complainant in return for not naming the complainant’s relatives and associates in a cyber fraud case registered at the Cyber Crime Police Station in Hyderabad.

Investigators said he had already taken ₹5 lakh in cash and later asked for the remaining ₹4 lakh.

On May 30, Mahendar allegedly pressured the complainant to pay the balance amount at his office. After receiving a complaint, the ACB’s Central Investigation Unit laid a trap and caught him while he was allegedly demanding the remaining money.

Cash and valuables seized

During searches at Mahendar’s residence, ACB officials found ₹13 lakh in unaccounted cash, gold ornaments, and property documents.

Officials are verifying the assets and continuing their investigation.

Court appearance

Authorities will produce Mahendar before the First Additional Special Judge for SPE and ACB Cases at Nampally and seek judicial remand.

Officials have withheld the complainant’s identity for security reasons.

The ACB urged citizens to report bribery demands through its toll-free helpline 1064 or WhatsApp number 9440446106.
