Telangana Congress seeks CEO intervention over voter verification issues in Kukatpally
HYDERABAD: The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee has sought the immediate intervention of Chief Electoral Officer C Sudharshan Reddy over alleged disruptions in voter verification work in Kukatpally Assembly constituency (AC-46).
In a representation dated August 29, 2026, P Rajesh Kumar, chairman of the Election Commission Coordination Committee of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee, alleged that a majority of Booth Level Officers (BLOs) in Kukatpally and adjoining areas had suspended their duties over delayed honorarium payments.
The representation said the disruption had affected the serving of hearing notices for voter verification hearings, including those scheduled for August 26 and August 28. It alleged that several affected voters had not received formal notices.
The party said the situation could leave voters without an opportunity to present their cases and sought urgent steps to prevent names from being deleted or delayed without due process.
Congress flags absence of Electoral Registration Officer
The representation also alleged that the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) for Kukatpally Assembly constituency was unavailable or absent from the office, resulting in what it described as an administrative vacuum.
“In the absence of the ERO, subordinate election officials and administrative staff express complete inability to take policy or corrective decisions,” the letter said.
It added that delegations from local political party leaders, resident associations and affected voters were allegedly being turned away without resolution or written acknowledgement.
The Congress sought directions for the existing ERO to remain available or for a special/additional ERO to be deputed to the Kukatpally Assembly headquarters to address pending grievances.
Party seeks fresh notices before voter records are altered
The representation sought postponement and rescheduling of all voter verification hearings fixed for August 26, August 28 and subsequent dates until proper notice service is ensured.
It also sought expedited payment of pending honorariums to BLOs in Kukatpally and across Telangana, saying this would enable them to resume field duties.
The party further requested that fresh notices be served in person, with proper physical or digital acknowledgement, before any voter record is altered or deleted.
Kukatpally is Assembly constituency No. 46 in Medchal-Malkajgiri district. C Sudharshan Reddy is the Telangana Chief Electoral Officer, according to the state government’s official directory.
