Night Temperatures Drop To 10.2°c In Telangana; Hyderabad Records 13 15°c

HYDERABAD: Telangana is bracing for its coldest spell of the season, with the India Meteorological Department confirming a steady fall in night temperatures across the state and weather observers warning of a peak cold wave between November 13 and 18.

Northerly winds, clear skies driving rapid night-time cooling

On Wednesday, Sirpur in Kumuram Bheem district recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 10.2°C. Adilabad logged 11.1°C, while Nirmal, Jagtial and Rajanna Sircilla reported between 11°C and 12°C, according to the Telangana State Development Planning Society. The readings were 2-4°C below the seasonal average.

Hyderabad to see 11-13°C; northern districts may touch 8°C

In Hyderabad, night temperatures ranged from 13°C to 15°C, with Serilingampally at 13.2°C and Secunderabad at 14.8°C. An IMD Hyderabad meteorologist said the continuing dry northerly winds and clear skies were allowing rapid night-time cooling. “Moisture levels are very low and there are no clouds to trap heat at night. This allows surface temperatures to drop quickly after sunset,” the official said.

Private weather observer Telangana Weatherman forecast that the peak cold wave will begin on Thursday, affecting northern, western and central districts, where minimum temperatures may fall to 8-10°C. In Hyderabad, meteorologists expect the lowest temperatures to be between 11°C and 13°C in the west, north, and southern parts of the city between November 13 and 18.

Officials have advised residents particularly children, the older and those with chronic illnesses to avoid early-morning exposure and wear layered clothing. Farmers have been urged to protect rabi crops and young livestock from cold stress. According to IMD, the cold spell is likely to persist till around November 17, followed by a gradual rise in night temperatures.
