HYDERABAD: In a first-of-its-kind welfare initiative, the Telangana government has sanctioned financial assistance from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) for a transgender woman to undergo breast implantation surgery.

The assistance was approved following directions from Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, according to members of the transgender community and their supporters.

The Queer Bandhu Parents Association said the move marked an important step in improving healthcare access for transgender persons in the state. The association noted that Telangana has already been providing equal opportunities to transgender individuals and that extending support for gender-affirming healthcare further strengthens their right to live with dignity.

Support for gender-affirming healthcare

Following the successful completion of the surgery, a delegation led by M. Mukunda Mala, founder-president of the Queer Bandhu Parents Association, met Chief Minister’s Officer on Special Duty (OSD) Vemula Srinivasulu and expressed gratitude for the assistance provided through the CMRF.

The delegation said the financial support reflected the government’s commitment to the welfare and inclusion of transgender persons.

Gratitude on Telangana Formation Day

On the occasion of Telangana Formation Day, members of the association thanked the Chief Minister for initiatives aimed at the welfare, empowerment and social integration of the transgender community.

The association recalled that the Chief Minister had earlier stated that the government would stand by transgender persons and members of the LGBTQ community, particularly in addressing their healthcare needs.
