Telangana CM Unveils Rajiv Gandhi Statue

Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy inaugurated the statue of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in Hyderabad on Monday. The statue is located right opposite to the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Telangana State Secretariat

The unveiling of the statue ceremony was attended by several Ministers and senior party leaders. Addressing the gathering, Revanth Reddy criticized the senior BRS leaders K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) and KT Rama Rao for not doing enough for the development of women empowerment.

Taking potshots at KTR, the Chief Minister said, “Due to the computer revolution brought by former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, he went to the US and worked there and later became an IT Minister (of Telangana). If it was not for Rajiv Gandhi, KTR would not have become a Minister. He would have become a tea-seller or a tiffin centre owner in Guntur or Siddipet.”

The Chief minister reminded the people of the sacrifices made by the Nehru family including former Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi for the nation. He also added that it was Congress which made the realization of Telangana as a separate state possible.

“We made the formation of Telangana state possible. We also installed the Telangana Talli statue in the premises of Secretariat,” he added.

It may be noted here that a political slugfest has been going on between the ruling Congress and Opposition BRS over the installation of Rajiv Gandhi’s statue in front of the Secretariat. The previous BRS government had planned to install the statue of Telangana Talli at this location. KTR had even announced that the party would strongly oppose the installation of the former PM’s statue as the pedestal was reserved for Telangana Talli statue.
