Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has approved the proposal to construct seven new flyovers in Hyderabad to address the city’s traffic congestion.

In a high-level meeting at the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) office in Nanakramguda, the Chief Minister instructed officials to develop the core urban area of Hyderabad’s Outer Ring Road (ORR) to international standards. He highlighted the need for a drone survey across the entire area, which is already being piloted.

Revanth Reddy also directed officials to gather detailed information about housing, drinking water supply, electricity, and sewage systems in the city to ensure uninterrupted basic amenities for both current and future needs.

Regarding traffic management in Greater Hyderabad, he suggested seeking cooperation from Google’s technology, if needed, to ensure smooth commuting. Plans for restoring lakes and expanding drains in the core urban area were also discussed.

The Chief Minister instructed officials to complete land acquisition and other necessary work for the construction of flyovers at seven major traffic-heavy junctions. Tenders for the project should be called as soon as possible.

Srinivasa Raju, Infrastructure Advisor; Dana Kishore, Principal Secretary of Municipal Administration; Ilambarthi, Commissioner of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation; and other senior officials attended the meeting.

Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister inaugurated Microsoft’s new campus in Gachibowli, which marks the company’s 25th anniversary in Hyderabad. The new facility spans 1.1 million square feet and will accommodate 2,500 additional employees. It is also LEED-certified for sustainability.

Microsoft’s Hyderabad center is its largest R&D hub outside the U.S., housing half of the company’s 20,000 employees in India. The company plans to increase its headcount by 4,800 in the coming months and invest Rs. 15,000 crore to expand its hyperscale AI data centers in Telangana.

On the occasion, Revanth Reddy highlighted the growth of Hyderabad alongside Microsoft, stating, “The world looks at Hyderabad today as a technology powerhouse, a city that nurtures innovation and attracts global talent. And with partners like Microsoft, the future is even brighter.”

Microsoft also announced several initiatives in collaboration with the Telangana government, including AI training for 1.2 lakh people across the state. The company will establish the AI Foundations Academy to introduce AI education in 500 government schools, benefiting 50,000 students. Additionally, the AI-Industry Pro initiative will upskill 20,000 industry professionals, and AI-Govern will train 50,000 government officials in digital productivity, Generative AI, and cybersecurity.

Microsoft will also work with the Telangana government to set up an AI Center of Excellence (AICoE), which will develop cloud-based AI infrastructure and create a centralized AI Knowledge Hub.
