Telangana Cm Meets Pm Modi In Delhi, Seeks Rs. 20,000 Crores For Musi Rejuvenation Project

Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, on February 26, 2025, urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to grant permission for the Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase-II project, aimed at expanding the city’s metro network. The Chief Minister highlighted that the previous government had neglected metro expansion over its 10-year rule. The Phase-II project, which includes five corridors covering a 76.4 km stretch, is estimated to cost Rs. 24,269 crores. Revanth Reddy requested immediate approval for the project.

In a meeting with Prime Minister Modi at his official residence in New Delhi, CM Revanth Reddy also discussed several other state-related issues, including pending projects and the need for additional IPS officers in Telangana.

Revanth Reddy appealed to the Prime Minister to approve the Southern part of the Regional Ring Road (RRR) project, noting that 90% of the land acquisition for the Northern part has already been completed. He stressed that both parts of the RRR should be developed simultaneously for the full utility of the road. The state government is ready to bear 50% of the land acquisition cost for the southern part. CM Revanth also proposed a Regional Ring Rail project to improve railway connectivity in Telangana and neighboring states, urging the Prime Minister to approve it.

As Telangana is a landlocked state, CM Revanth requested the establishment of a dry port near the RRR to facilitate trade. He also suggested a Greenfield Road and rail line to connect the dry port to the seaport, seeking approval for the project.

The Chief Minister also highlighted the significance of the Musi River, which flows through Hyderabad, to the state’s culture and spirituality. He requested the central government’s support for the Musi Rejuvenation project, which includes the development of Bapu Ghat, construction of 27 sewage treatment plants (STPs) for Musi purification, and the development of retaining walls and embankments. Revanth Reddy sought Rs. 20,000 crores in financial assistance for the project.

Additionally, the Chief Minister asked the Prime Minister for support in transferring 222.7 acres of defense land for the Gandhi Sarovar project.

Addressing the shortage of IPS officers in Telangana, CM Revanth Reddy pointed out the rise in cybercrimes, drug trafficking, and urbanisation. Following the bifurcation of the state, Telangana was allotted 61 IPS cadre posts, with 15 additional posts sanctioned in 2015. CM Revanth Reddy requested 29 more IPS officers to meet the growing demands.

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy also urged the Prime Minister to grant Telangana the India Semiconductor Mission project, citing the state’s favorable conditions for setting up the semiconductor industry. State IT and Industry Minister D. Sridhar Babu was also present during the meeting.
