BJP complains to Election Commission over alleged MCC violation by Telangana CM

HYDERABAD: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has lodged a complaint with the Chief Electoral Officer, Telangana, alleging that Chief Minister’s reported proposal to offer a ministerial berth to Mohammed Azharuddin amounts to a gross violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) during the Jubilee Hills bye-election.
Party claims CM’s move to offer ministry post aims to woo voters
In a letter submitted on October 30, 2025, BJP leaders Marri Shashidhar Reddy, chairman of the BJP Election Commission Affairs Committee, and MLA Payal Shanker, deputy floor leader of the BJP Legislature Party, said the alleged move was aimed at influencing a particular section of voters.
They cited media reports suggesting that the Chief Minister proposed to induct former cricketer Mohammed Azharuddin, who had contested from Jubilee Hills in the 2023 Assembly elections, into the Cabinet. The BJP said this “announcement, if made, was intended to woo a section of the electorate” and could “adversely affect the bye-election outcome”.
“The proposal is an utter violation of the Model Code of Conduct, as it seeks to appease a section of voters in the Jubilee Hills constituency,” the BJP leaders said. They urged the Election Commission to “take cognisance of the matter and direct immediate withdrawal of the announcement.”
They also noted that, although the MCC may not cover the entire city of Hyderabad, any such statement from the Chief Minister “would influence the electorate in the constituency where polling is scheduled.”
The BJP has requested the Election Commission to initiate appropriate action against the Chief Minister for making what it called a “politically motivated and mala fide announcement”.
