HYDERABAD: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy announced that the Telangana Sports Hub board will have full autonomy to develop the Gachibowli Stadium into one of the world’s premier sports venues. The foundation stone for the project will be laid on June 2, coinciding with Telangana Formation Day.

The CM reviewed the stadium project with board members, including Konidela Upasana, Kavya Maran, Sanjiv Goenka, C Shashidhar, Jayesh Ranjan, and sports MD Sony Bala Devi, at a star hotel in Banjara Hills.

“Hyderabad must become a national role model in sports. We will lay the foundation stone for the Gachibowli Stadium development project on June 2. An action plan must be ready by then. The stadium must have world-class amenities, including a helipad,” the CM said.

Officials were instructed to enable athletes to travel directly from Shamshabad International Airport to the stadium by helicopter. Revanth Reddy also called for a comprehensive plan to ensure the stadium faces no financial constraints in the future. “An architect has already been appointed. I grant the board full autonomy to develop the stadium. Our ultimate goal is the long-term growth of sports across Telangana,” he added.

The CM said Hyderabad should have the capacity to host the Olympic Games. “Amenities should surpass those in China. To attract IT and other professionals, features such as large-format screens will be installed,” he said.
