Telangana CEO among voters flagged over record mismatch in SIR
HYDERABAD: Telangana Chief Electoral Officer C. Sudharshan Reddy is among nearly 93 lakh voters who received notices from the Election Commission of India (ECI) over mismatches in voter records, as reported by DC.
The mismatch in Reddy’s case arose from differences in his initials. His Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2002 record and Electors Photo Identity Card (EPIC) carried the initial “C”, while his Aadhaar card, issued later, mentioned his full surname.
Officials said the notices were system-generated and no one was exempt, including the chief electoral officer. “This is not a major issue. Everyone served notices must upload the required details, and the CEO will also comply,” sources said.
By Wednesday, more than 34 lakh notices had been issued against 92.88 lakh voters flagged for discrepancies. At least 32 lakh of the ‘unmapped’ voters are at risk of deletion.
Minor errors can be corrected through Form 8, officials say
Election officials clarified that minor discrepancies, including differences in initials, can be corrected by submitting Form 8.
The anomalies were detected through ERONET, a centralised web-based application introduced by the ECI in 2017 to manage electoral rolls.
ERONET helps identify duplicate and similar voter entries
ERONET digitises voter registration data and generates reports to identify potentially duplicate entries. These include Photo Similar Entries (PSE) and Demographic Similar Entries (DSE).
The Telangana government website identifies C. Sudharshan Reddy as the state’s Chief Electoral Officer. Recent reports have also identified him by the same name in connection with the ongoing SIR exercise.
