CEO orders faster voter progeny mapping in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Telangana, Sudarshan Reddy, on February 21, 2026 directed Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) to intensify and expedite the ongoing voter progeny mapping survey in Hyderabad.
The exercise is being undertaken as part of preparatory work for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Accompanied by Hyderabad District Election Officer R V Karnan, the CEO conducted a surprise inspection of the progeny mapping process in the Secunderabad Assembly constituency. He visited Polling Station No. 211 at Manikeshwar Nagar and later reviewed the exercise at Polling Station No. 12 in the Charminar Assembly constituency.
During the visit, Sudarshan Reddy interacted with Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and supervisors to assess their understanding of the mapping process. He sought details of the methodology being followed and reviewed the progress made so far.
BLOs informed the CEO that they were carrying out door-to-door verification by comparing entries in the 2002 electoral roll with the 2025 draft roll. As part of the progeny mapping exercise, details of family members of voters whose names appeared in the 2002 list are being collected and cross-verified with the current electoral roll to ensure accuracy and inclusion, wherever applicable.
EROs and AEROs briefed the CEO on the progress of the survey across constituencies.
Addressing officials, Sudarshan Reddy emphasised that progeny mapping should be conducted meticulously in line with the guidelines of the Election Commission of India. He stressed the need to complete the exercise within a fixed timeframe while ensuring accuracy, transparency and comprehensiveness in the rolls.
The Election Commission of India plans to undertake the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Telangana to strengthen the integrity and credibility of the voter database, he said.
Additional Commissioner (Elections) Chandrakala, EROs Sarita and Anjaneyulu, and AEROs Sudheer Reddy, among others, were present during the inspection.
