Census pre-test begins in three Telangana regions

SANGAREDDY: A pre-test census exercise has begun in three regions of Telangana ahead of the 2026 Census. The survey is under way in selected villages of Ramachandrapuram in Sangareddy district, Thipparthi mandal in Nalgonda district, and Pinapaka mandal in Bhadradri Kothagudem district.
Digital entry through mobile apps
Seven revenue villages in Pinapaka mandal were chosen for the exercise. Forty-four teachers were appointed as enumerators and seven as supervisors. They underwent three days of training from September 2.
Each enumerator has been allotted around 150–200 households. Two mobile applications digital layout and house listing were installed on their phones for fieldwork, and all household details are being entered directly into these apps.
Geotagging of all residential units
Enumerators began geotagging residential structures through the digital layout app on September 10. Since Saturday, they have been collecting household information through the house listing app.
Questions include the house owner’s name, number of residents, type of food consumed (rice or millet-based rotis), type of dwelling (tile-roof, concrete slab, brick wall or mud wall), availability of a toilet and whether it has a roof, drainage facility, television and DTH connection, and ownership of a two-wheeler or car.
Pre-test to run till September 30
Officials said the pre-test census will help ensure a smooth enumeration process next year and support better delivery of public services. “The exercise will continue in the selected villages till September 30,” tahsildar Gopalakrishna said.
He urged residents to cooperate with enumerators and clarified that the data has no link to welfare schemes.
