Telangana Cabinet clears four key Bills on hate speech, gig workers, advocate safety

HYDERABAD: The State Cabinet, led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, on Monday approved four key Bills on hate speech, gig workers’ welfare, advocate protection and parental support. The government will now introduce these Bills in the State Legislature for enactment.
The Cabinet cleared the Telangana Hate Speech and Hate Crime Prevention Bill, 2026. The Bill aims to curb speeches and actions that disturb communal harmony. It specifically targets inflammatory speeches, social media posts and activities that may incite violence, riots or communal tensions.
The Cabinet held the meeting at the Committee Hall in the Assembly premises.
The government approved the Telangana Platform-Based Gig Workers (Registration, Social Security and Welfare) Act, 2026. The proposed law mandates registration of gig workers and sets up a welfare board along with a dedicated welfare fund.
The law is likely to benefit around 4.2 lakh gig and platform workers across the state. It will provide legal recognition, strengthen social security and protect workers’ rights. The Cabinet also made minor changes to align the Bill with the Centre’s Social Security Code.
The Cabinet cleared the Telangana Advocate Protection Bill to address rising attacks on legal professionals. The law aims to ensure safety and create a secure working environment for advocates.
The move follows past incidents, including the murder of advocate couple Vaman Rao. The government said the Bill will help prevent such attacks and strengthen protection for the legal community.
