Telangana Budget Session begins today; Governor to address joint sitting

HYDERABAD: The Budget Session of the Telangana Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council will begin on March 16, with Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla scheduled to address a joint sitting of both Houses in the morning.
Following the Governor’s address, the House will be adjourned till March 17. Members will hold discussions on the Governor’s speech on March 17 and March 18.
The Assembly will not meet on March 19 due to the Ugadi holiday. Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka will present the State Budget in the Assembly on March 20.
Discussions on departmental budgets from March 23
From March 23, the Assembly will begin discussions on departmental budget allocations.
Several key bills are expected to be introduced during the session. These include proposed amendments to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Act and a Gig Workers Welfare Bill.
Legislators are also expected to discuss the government’s Musi River rejuvenation project during the session.
Telangana Talli statue to be unveiled
Earlier in the morning, Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla will unveil the Telangana Talli statue at the Assembly premises.
Meanwhile, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) legislators are expected to proceed to the Assembly after paying tributes to Amaraveerulu (martyrs). The party has said it will raise issues related to the Congress government’s “six guarantees” and alleged scams during the session.
