Telangana Budget : ₹5 Lakh Life Cover for Every Family, Solar Pumps for Tribals, Breakfast Milk for Kids – Revanth’s Mega Push

HYDERABAD: The 2026–27 Budget unveiled a series of welfare schemes and infrastructure projects aimed at expanding social security, improving nutrition, and accelerating regional economic growth across the state.

Among the key announcements was the Indiramma Family Life Insurance Scheme, which will provide ₹5 lakh life insurance coverage to 1.15 crore families irrespective of social or economic status. The scheme is scheduled to be launched on June 2, 2026.

The government also introduced the Rajiv Yuva Vikasam Scheme, allocating ₹6,000 crore to support entrepreneurship among youth from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Backward Classes, Minority, and Other Castes categories.

Another major initiative, Indira Soura Giri Jala Vikasam, envisages ₹12,600 crore in funding to supply fully subsidised solar pump sets to 2.10 lakh tribal farmers. The programme seeks to promote cultivation of forest produce across 6 lakh acres of podu lands.

For government employees, the Budget proposed a comprehensive accident insurance scheme covering 7.57 lakh employees and pensioners. The scheme offers ₹1.20 crore compensation in case of accidental death and ₹2 crore coverage for air accidents.

A long-pending Cashless Health Security Scheme will cover 23.51 lakh government employees, pensioners, and their dependents. The programme will provide digital health cards and cover treatment for 1,998 diseases.

In the education sector, a breakfast scheme will be introduced from the 2026–27 academic year for students from pre-primary to Intermediate level. The programme will provide milk three days a week and ragi malt on the remaining three days.

The government also announced the extension of the Midday Meal Scheme to students in Government Junior Colleges for the first time. Plans are underway to establish Young India Integrated Residential Schools in all Assembly constituencies. Of the proposed 105 schools, 79 have already been sanctioned and 44 are under construction.

Support for differently abled students includes distribution of retrofitted motorised vehicles for those pursuing Intermediate education. The Budget has also earmarked ₹100 crore to modernise kitchens in hostels and residential educational institutions to improve hygiene standards.

On infrastructure and economic development, the government announced the creation of a 30,000-acre Bharat Future City. The project will feature a Skill University, an artificial intelligence hub, and a greenfield national highway linking directly to Machilipatnam Port.

A new regional growth strategy will classify areas into Core Urban Region Economy (CURE), Peri-Urban Region Economy (PURE), and Rural Agri Region Economy (RARE) zones to promote sector-specific development. Within CURE areas, existing petrol and diesel autorickshaws will be retrofitted into electric vehicles at no cost to owners.

The Next-Gen Life Sciences Policy 2026–2030 aims to attract investments and position Telangana among the world’s top five life sciences clusters, with an estimated potential to generate one lakh direct jobs.

The Budget also introduced the Chief Minister Overseas Employment Programme through the Telangana Overseas Manpower Company (TOMCOM), which will provide specialised skill and language training for youth seeking employment in countries such as Germany, Japan, and the United Kingdom.

In a move to tackle drug trafficking, the government announced the formation of the EAGLE Special Force to combat narcotics networks and dismantle illegal drug laboratories.

Preparations are also underway for Godavari Pushkaralu 2027, scheduled between June and July 2027. The state has allocated ₹500 crore for the event, which is expected to draw around eight crore devotees.

A Digital Health Profile System will be implemented to provide digital health cards and maintain public health records for all residents, with assurances of strict data confidentiality.

Additionally, the Palana Scheme proposes the establishment of 500 Anganwadi-cum-Crèche Centres to offer childcare and nutrition support for children of working women.
