Telangana BJP leaders addressing media on water projects and allocations

HYDERABAD: The Telangana BJP has decided to undertake a study of water projects in the state and form a special committee to visit key projects. Party leaders said they are prepared for a detailed discussion on water allocations in the Telangana Legislative Assembly.

BJP leaders accused the Indian National Congress and the Bharat Rashtra Samithi of spreading falsehoods against the Union government on water-sharing issues. They said the party would counter these claims both inside and outside the Assembly.

Centre being blamed

The BJP alleged that BRS chief K Chandrashekar Rao was resorting to sentiment-driven politics to deflect responsibility. Party leaders said attempts at what they termed “emotional politics” would not work in Telangana and accused Rao of blaming the Centre to cover past decisions.

They questioned who had earlier agreed to the allocation of 299 tmc ft of Krishna river water, asserting that Rao was responsible for injustice to Telangana’s water share in the Krishna River basin.

Allegations against BRS, Congress

The BJP said Rao, who had remained away from public life for a long period, had now returned to what it described as emotive politics. It also criticised the Congress government, alleging that it had failed to secure Telangana’s rightful water share.

Party leaders referred to the tenure of former Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, questioning why Congress leaders did not object when Krishna waters were diverted at the time.

The BJP said it had already made a PowerPoint presentation on the injustice done to Telangana in water allocations and would continue to place comprehensive information before the public and in the Assembly in the coming days.
