BJP’s N Ramchander Rao opposes PRCs without verification, cites security concerns

HYDERABAD: Telangana BJP president N Ramchander Rao on Saturday opposed issuing Permanent Residence Certificates (PRCs) without proper verification. He said such a move could create security risks and weaken efforts to identify illegal immigrants.
Congress, AIMIM accused of demanding PRCs
Speaking to ANI, Rao alleged that the Congress and the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) are demanding PRCs without adequate verification. He said the Congress raised the issue in Karnataka, while AIMIM made a similar demand in Telangana.
“In Karnataka and Telangana, political parties like the Congress and AIMIM are demanding the issuance of PRCs. AIMIM’s demand in Telangana is the same as the Congress’ demand in Karnataka. But the Permanent Residence Certificate is going to cause a lot of security concerns, and this certificate cannot be given without verification,” Rao said.
Survey should come before PRCs, says Rao
Rao said authorities should complete the survey process before considering PRCs.
“So, after the survey, the PRC question comes. But the AIMIM and Congress are demanding PRCs to be issued now. This is aborting the attempt of the Government of India to weed out illegal immigrants from the country,” he said.
Verification must be mandatory
Rao said issuing PRCs without proper verification could allow illegal immigrants to secure official documents and claim Indian citizenship.
“The Permanent Residence Certificate without verification will enable some illegal immigrants to settle here and pose themselves as Indian citizens. Therefore, before giving the PRC to any person, there should be proper verification anywhere in the country. Rules have to be followed, and without proper verification, the PRC cannot be given,” he said.
Electoral roll revision nears completion
Meanwhile, the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Telangana has entered the final stage. Officials have distributed 99% of the enumeration forms, marking significant progress in the ongoing revision process.
