Telangana records best winter in seven years

Cool winter morning in Hyderabad with lower daytime temperatures

HYDERABAD: Maximum temperatures in Hyderabad have stayed between 27°C and 29°C over the past few days, significantly lower than the 32°C to 33°C recorded during the same period in 2024 and 2025.

The trend marks a clear departure from the past two winters, when day temperatures rose sharply by late January, signalling an early end to the season across Telangana. This year, winter conditions have remained stable, with cooler days extending into the end of the month.

Extended winter conditions

Weather observers say the persistence of lower daytime temperatures has been one of the defining features of the current season. Unlike recent years, there have been fewer sudden warm spells, helping sustain winter-like conditions across most parts of the state.

Forecasts indicate that controlled maximum temperatures, coupled with moderate morning and night chill, are likely to continue through the first 10 days of February. Such conditions are considered unusual in recent climatic patterns, where February often sees a sharp transition towards summer.

Relief from early heat

The prolonged winter has brought relief from early heat stress, particularly in urban areas like Hyderabad that have seen rising winter temperatures in recent years. Consistently lower maximums have also reduced the frequency of dry, hot afternoons that typically emerge by this time of the season.

Overall, weather watchers describe the ongoing season as the most favourable winter Telangana has experienced in the last seven years, marked by sustained cool days, delayed warming and a gradual seasonal transition.
