HYDERABAD: BC Commission chairman G Niranjan on Friday expressed anguish over the death of Shri Sai Eshwarachari, who succumbed to injuries at Gandhi Hospital after attempting self-immolation in Medipally, Medchal–Malkajgiri, on Thursday. According to the commission, the deceased had alleged injustice to backward classes before pouring petrol on himself on a public road.

Niranjan said backward classes were deeply distressed after expecting 42% reservation, but seeing only 21.39% implemented in the State. He said the incident reflected the emotional strain among BCs following the reduced quota.

‘Struggle must continue, not such tragic deaths’

He appealed to the BC community to continue the movement for securing 42% reservation but cautioned against extreme steps. “No one should get mentally distressed and resort to such tragic deaths,” he said, adding that earlier representations pointing out errors in reservation implementation were ignored before elections were announced.

Seeks ex-gratia for family

Offering condolences to the family, Niranjan said Sai Eshwarachari’s death “will not go in vain” and would inspire continued efforts for achieving 42% reservation. He urged the State government to support the family and announce ₹25 lakh ex-gratia.
