Telangana bans Almant cough syrup sales

HYDERABAD: The Telangana government has ordered an immediate ban on the sale of Almant cough syrup used for cold and cough, citing serious health risks, particularly to children.
The health department has directed all drug inspectors to ensure that the syrup is not available in any medical store across the state. The government has also prohibited its use with immediate effect.
Centre flags safety concerns over paediatric drug
The decision follows an alert from the Union government warning that the drug could cause multiple health complications in children. Acting on this advisory, the Telangana government issued instructions to enforce the ban strictly.

Ethylene glycol contamination detected
Officials said toxic ethylene glycol was found in Almant Kid Syrup. The government warned that anyone found selling the drug would face strict action. Doctors have also been advised not to prescribe the syrup, while the public has been urged to stop using it immediately.
