Telangana govt revises auto fares; minimum charge set at ₹30 for 1.6 km

HYDERABAD: The Telangana government has revised auto-rickshaw fares, fixing the minimum charge at ₹30 for the first 1.6 km and ₹14 for every subsequent kilometre.
The revised fares were notified under Section 67(1)(d)(i) of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, through G.O.Ms No.46 issued by the Transport, Roads & Buildings (TR-1) Department on October 2, 2026.
Under the new tariff, passengers will have to pay a detention charge of 75 paise for every minute. The notification also permits a luggage charge of 50 paise for each package, subject to specified conditions.
Luggage must accompany the passenger. The charge will not apply to a briefcase, handbag or any attached case or bag measuring less than 60×40 cm. The maximum luggage allowed is 100 kg.
The government has also fixed a higher tariff for late-night journeys. A fare calculated at one-and-a-half times the normal tariff will apply to auto-rickshaws engaged between 23.00 IST and 05.00 IST.
The digital auto meters will be configured to record the minimum fare of ₹30 when the vehicle is engaged. After 1.6 km, the meter will calculate the fare at ₹1.40 for every 100 metres.
The Transport Commissioner has been given three months from the date of issue of the orders to reset existing digital meters to the revised tariff.
Until the meters are reset, auto-rickshaws will have to display an approved tariff card showing both the existing and revised fares, according to the notification.
The order supersedes the notification issued through G.O.Ms No.20, Transport, Roads & Buildings (Tr-1) Department, dated February 14, 2014, insofar as it relates to auto-rickshaw fares.
The notification directs the State Transport Authorities and Regional Transport Authorities in Telangana to fix the revised fares for hire of auto-rickshaws registered and operating in the state.
Transport Commissioner Telangana has been directed to take further necessary action.
