Budget session: Telangana Assembly set for intense debate as KCR joins proceedings

Hyderabad: The upcoming Budget session of the Telangana Legislative Assembly, beginning Wednesday, is set to be stormy, as BRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao will likely attend the House.

The budget session will commence with Governor Jishnu Dev Varma’s address to a joint sitting of the Assembly and Legislative Council.

The Business Advisory Committee will decide on the session’s agenda and duration. According to sources, the Congress government is expected to present its second budget on 19 March after a short break for Holi festival later this week.

During the budget session, the state government will introduce a bill to enhance the reservation quota for Backward Classes to from 23 to 42 per cent, attempting to fulfill the ruling party’s poll promises. A legislation aimed at SC categorisation is also on the Assembly agenda.

Both the Houses will witness intense debates as opposition BRS is set to corner the government on a host of issues including Congress party’s alleged unfulfilled promises.

Earlier in the day, KCR held a three-hour long BRS Legislative Party (BRSLP) meeting at Telangana Bhavan and directed the party’s MLAs and MLCs on the strategy to be adopted in the House.

Previously, BRS working president KT Rama Rao said that the party chief and Leader of Opposition KCR would personally attend the upcoming budget session of the Telangana Assembly commencing from Wednesday. He added that KCR would be present throughout the session and the party legislators would continue to raise the voice of Telangana people inside and outside the House.
