Revanth Reddy faces opposition heat in Assembly

A. Revanth Reddy Warned Party Leaders Of Strict Action

HYDERABAD:  The Telangana Assembly’s monsoon session will begin at 10am on Monday, with the ruling Congress and opposition parties preparing for a confrontation over governance, public issues and government policies.

Before the proceedings begin, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy will inaugurate the newly constructed Central Hall at the Assembly at 9am.

The duration of the monsoon session will be decided at the Business Advisory Committee meeting to be held in the Speaker’s chamber after the proceedings begin.

The opposition parties have prepared strategies to corner the government on public issues and its policies, while the ruling Congress is also ready to counter them.

The government plans to focus on the progress of development programmes and welfare schemes being implemented in the state, besides seeking approval for new measures. The session will also have a special discussion on the government’s 1,000 days in office, development programmes and implementation of welfare schemes.

The opposition plans to put pressure on the government over key issues faced by people, farmers and students at the ground level. The session is therefore expected to witness heated political exchanges.

The government is also planning to introduce several key bills relating to governance reforms and public interest and secure the approval of both Houses.

Revanth Reddy has already directed ministers and ruling party legislators to counter criticism from the opposition with department-wise data.

Metro reports to come up before House

The first day will see several annual reports being tabled in the Assembly. The proceedings will begin with Question Hour, during which ministers concerned will answer questions raised by members.

Revanth Reddy is scheduled to table three reports in the Assembly, including the Telangana Samagra Shiksha audit report and the PM SHRI Schools audit report.

The chief minister will also place before the House the last five annual reports of Hyderabad Metro Rail Ltd.

Under Section 395 of the Companies Act, 2013, the annual reports of Hyderabad Metro Rail Ltd for the financial years from 2013-14 to 2017-18 will be tabled before the Legislative Assembly.

The reports are likely to trigger discussion on the expansion of the metro project during the previous government’s tenure, utilisation of funds and financial transactions.

The opposition is also set to raise issues including Krishna river waters, government promises and fee reimbursement, while the Congress is insisting that K Chandrasekhar Rao attend the Assembly.

The Bharatiya Janata Party is expected to raise the issue of fee reimbursement and other matters through the session, while the Bharat Rashtra Samithi is expected to focus on Krishna waters.
