HYDERABAD: The Telangana Legislative Assembly on Saturday passed a resolution supporting the state government’s decision to take over Phase-I of the Hyderabad Metro Rail project from infrastructure major Larsen & Toubro (L&T).

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, who moved the resolution, said Phase-I spans 69 km. He also added that the state has submitted proposals to the Centre for Phase-II A and Phase-II B. These phases will cover 76.4 km and 86.1 km, respectively.

Moreover, the chief minister said the state examined technical, legal and administrative aspects before planning the next phases. He further noted that continuing Phase-I under private management could create hurdles. In particular, it may delay approvals for future expansions.

Therefore, the government decided to take over Phase-I through Hyderabad Metro Rail Ltd (HMRL).
