HYDERABAD: Telangana has applied to the Centre for Geographical Indication (GI) tags for 12 products from across the state, seeking international recognition for local arts, crafts and food items under the “local to global” initiative.
Among the products proposed are Hyderabad pearls and turmeric varieties, along with region-specific crafts and traditional produce from multiple districts, officials said.
The applications have been submitted as part of the first phase under the Centre’s “One District One Product” programme, aimed at promoting indigenous products with unique geographical identity.
State officials said the GI tag would help protect traditional knowledge, improve branding and open global markets for artisans and producers.
