HYDERABAD: The wedding season is set to resume in the Telugu states from February 18 after a gap of three months.

Auspicious dates were unavailable since November 26 last year due to Shukra Moodami, leading to a slowdown in weddings and related events. Priests said favourable dates will now be available continuously for the next three months.

With a series of auspicious days from February 18 to May, thousands of couples are expected to tie the knot across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Most function halls have already been booked. On select dates, weddings and functions will be held both in the morning and evening.

Weather conditions are also expected to improve from the second week of February, adding to the rush. The highest number of auspicious dates fall in February, March, April and May.

Multi-crore business expected across sectors

The four-month wedding stretch is likely to generate business worth several thousand crore rupees in the Telugu states, providing direct and indirect employment to thousands.

Sectors such as clothing, gold, travel, catering, event management, photography, flowers, decoration, function halls and hotels are expected to see high demand. Shopping activity is expected to pick up after February 18.

However, with gold prices rising, sales may be slightly lower compared to previous years. Flower decorators and event managers are expected to remain busy during the peak season.
