HYDERABAD: Cybercrime victims who struggle to connect to the National Cyber Crime Helpline number 1930 due to busy lines may soon find relief. The Telangana Cyber Security Bureau has developed an artificial intelligence-based voice agent, claimed to be the first of its kind in the country, to assist victims in lodging complaints.

System records conversation as formal complaint

The AI-powered voice agent, named Cyber Sarathi, interacts with callers by responding to their inputs and asking relevant questions to collect details of the offence. The system converts the conversation into a structured cybercrime complaint. The facility was launched on a pilot basis on Thursday and will be made available to the public shortly.

Call load prompted AI support system

Victims usually register complaints by calling the National Cyber Crime Helpline 1930 or by logging into the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP). When callers are unable to reach human agents due to heavy call volumes, their calls will be diverted to Cyber Sarathi.

The Telangana Cyber Security Bureau call centre currently operates with 15 staff members working in three shifts. It receives an average of 1,400 calls a day. Registering a single complaint on the NCRP can take up to 20 minutes, resulting in long waiting times for callers.

The bureau has already implemented a machine-learning-based chatbot. The new AI voice agent is an extension of these efforts.

After recording the complaint, the system prompts victims to share screenshots of bank transactions, messages and other digital evidence through WhatsApp. Based on these inputs, the AI registers the complaint on the NCRP.
