Ex-TGSPDCL engineer’s wife seeks ACB review, alleges unequal treatment in DA case
HYDERABAD: The wife of a former Telangana Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TGSPDCL) assistant divisional engineer has asked the Director General of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) to review the Disproportionate Assets (DA) case against her husband. She alleged that investigators followed different legal procedures in similar cases.
D. R. Tabita, wife of E. Ambedkar, a former Assistant Divisional Engineer (Operation), Ibrahimbagh, submitted the representation. She referred to Crime No. 14/RCA-ACB-RRR/2025, registered on September 15, 2025.
Tabita claimed that ACB officials treated her husband differently from Deputy Superintendent of Police Bhimreddy, who faced a similar DA investigation. According to her, investigators issued Bhimreddy a notice under Section 35(3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023. They did not arrest or remand him to judicial custody.
She alleged that authorities arrested her husband despite his cooperation with the investigation. He remained in judicial custody for 36 days.
Family claims arrest caused hardship
Tabita said her husband voluntarily disclosed his financial details and submitted all documents requested by investigators. Despite this, she said, the ACB arrested him. She claimed the arrest caused emotional, social and financial hardship to the family.
She also questioned why investigators did not extend the procedural safeguard under Section 35(3) of the BNSS to her husband. She argued that the different approach created an impression of unequal treatment.
Invokes Article 14 of the Constitution
In her representation, Tabita cited Article 14 of the Constitution, which guarantees equality before the law and equal protection of the laws. She argued that authorities must apply statutory safeguards and legal procedures equally, regardless of a person’s official position, influence, social status or economic standing.
She further stated that her family belongs to the Scheduled Caste community and lacks political or influential backing. Despite the hardship, she said, the family has continued to place its faith in the Constitution and the justice system.
Tabita urged the Director General to examine the reasons for the alleged difference in treatment. She said such a review would strengthen fairness, transparency and public confidence in the ACB. She also requested an objective review of the DA case against her husband and asked the authorities to take appropriate action if they found the prosecution legally unsustainable.
