HYDERABAD: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has asked the Income Tax Department to investigate properties allegedly held in benami names by six officials facing disproportionate assets cases, as reported by DC.

The officials include suspended deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Sankireddy Bheem Reddy; Muthyam Venkat Ramana of the Telangana Renewable Energy Development Corporation (Redco); HMDA chief engineer Ravinder; Survey and Land Records deputy director Sunkari Narahari Rao; excise superintendent Kommuri Mallareddy; and Roads and Buildings (R&B) engineer-in-chief J Mohan Naik.

The ACB said its searches and investigations found assets disproportionate to the officials’ known sources of income. The agency valued the properties at hundreds of crores of rupees at market rates.

The assets include land, buildings, investments and several kilograms of gold ornaments.

The Income Tax Department has registered cases under the Benami Transactions (Prohibition) Act and started investigations, according to the ACB.
