Telangana set to add 121 new liquor brands

HYDERABAD: Telangana is set to see the entry of international and premium Indian liquor brands, including foreign beers, luxury whiskies, cognacs and wines. The Telangana State Beverages Corporation Limited (TGBCL) has initiated the process to introduce 121 new liquor brands from 18 suppliers.
The proposed list includes single malt whiskies, cognacs, foreign beers, wines, vodka and other premium spirits. TGBCL managing director C Hari Kiran said the corporation had uploaded details of the proposed brands and documents submitted by the companies on its website to invite public objections and improve transparency in the registration process.
Public objections invited for proposed liquor brands
The applications were received from new suppliers who are not currently registered with the corporation. Officials are examining the applications before completing the brand-registration process.
The public notice has been issued to prevent legal complications and trademark disputes. Only brands that meet government regulations and eligibility criteria will be supplied to depots and, subsequently, retail liquor outlets in phases.
Objections to the proposed brands will be accepted for 10 days from the date of the notification. Representations reaching the Nampally Ayyar Bhavan by 5pm on September 1 will be considered. A committee of experts will examine the objections received before taking a final decision.
The exercise is aimed at widening consumer choice by bringing international-standard liquor products to Telangana while also generating revenue through liquor sales.
