Tejasvi Surya remarks trigger Telangana MPs protest

Hyderabad : Telangana Congress MPs met the Lok Sabha Speaker and lodged a complaint against remarks made by Bharatiya Janata Party MP Tejasvi Surya.
MPs object to comparison with Partition
The MPs objected to Surya’s comparison of the Telangana statehood issue with the Partition of India and Pakistan. They said the analogy was inappropriate and did not reflect the historical and political context of Telangana’s formation.
They added that equating a democratic statehood movement with a traumatic national event like Partition was misleading.
Demand to expunge remarks from records
The MPs urged the Speaker to remove Surya’s comments from the official parliamentary records. They said such remarks should not remain part of the proceedings.
They also requested the Chair to ensure that members exercise restraint while referring to sensitive political and historical issues in the House.
Issue gains political attention in Parliament
The matter drew attention within Parliament, with Congress MPs stating that Telangana’s formation followed a constitutional process after prolonged public demand.
They said comparisons that distort this context could lead to misunderstanding among the public.
