Chandanagar tea powder supplier held for adulteration, Rs. 1.2L in goods seized

Hyderabad: The sleuths of the Commissionerโ€™s Task Force, South West Zone, along with the Food Safety Officer, GHMC Circle-21, Chandanagar, conducted a raid on a unit manufacturing adulterated tea powder in Chandanagar, Hyderabad. One person was apprehended, and a large quantity of adulterated tea powder and materials worth Rs. 1,20,000 were seized from his possession.

The accused has been identified as D. Chandra Shekar, 46, son of D. Kondappa Naidu, a tea powder supplier and manufacturer from Chandanagar, Cyberabad.

The seized items include 130 packets (1 kg each) of adulterated tea powder, 35 kg of loose adulterated tea powder, 500 grams of Idacol Sunset Yellow color, 500 grams of Neelikon color, and 12 bottles (100 ml each) of Peacock brand Cardamom Super Flavor.

According to the police investigation, accused D. Chandra Shekar was found to be adulterating tea powder by mixing it with Idacol Sunset Yellow and Neelikon color to make it appear as high-quality tea. He also added Peacock Cardamom Super Flavor to enhance the aroma, but it lacked a valid license and was in violation of FSSAI guidelines.

The adulterated tea powder was being supplied in various areas including Mehdipatnam, Tolichowki, Golconda, Kukatpally, Gachibowli, Tellapur, Patancheru, Lingampally, and Chandanagar, endangering public health for personal profit.

Consuming these unbranded and adulterated tea powders could lead to serious health issues. Acting on a tip-off, the Commissionerโ€™s Task Force and the Food Safety Officer of GHMC Circle-21 raided the premises and seized the harmful substances.

The operation was carried out under the supervision of Inspector of Police S. Bala Swamy and led by Sub-Inspector S. Sai Kiran, Task Force, South West Zone, with the assistance of Food Safety Officer GHMC Circle-21, Chandanagar, and their teams.
