TDP Serves Notice to Eluru MP Putta Mahesh Kumar; Says Ready for Inquiry

HYDERABAD: The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has issued a show-cause notice to Putta Mahesh Kumar, the Member of Parliament from Eluru, after allegations linking him to a suspected drug-related episode surfaced on social media.
Party leadership orders action
State party president Palla Srinivasa Rao said the party acted quickly after TDP chief N. Chandrababu Naidu directed leaders to take action.
The party asked Mahesh Kumar to submit a written explanation within 48 hours. The notice seeks clarification on the allegations circulating in the public domain.
As a temporary step, the party told him to stay away from all organisational activities until leaders review the issue.
Rao warned that failure to give a satisfactory explanation could lead to further disciplinary action. He also said the party follows a zero-tolerance policy towards illegal activities, including narcotics.
MP denies allegations
Meanwhile, Mahesh Kumar rejected the allegations and called them baseless.
In a video statement released on Sunday, he said he only attended a dinner at a farmhouse after receiving an invitation from friends. He insisted that he had no involvement in any illegal activity.
“I have never committed any mistake. I will not commit any mistake. The truth will come out,” Mahesh said.
Ready to face inquiry
Mahesh Kumar said he was ready to face any inquiry. He added that he would fully cooperate with investigators.
The MP also urged party leaders, supporters and cadres not to believe rumours circulating on social media. He asked them to remain calm until the facts emerge.
Reiterating his stand, the Eluru MP said he remained confident that the investigation would clear his name.
