Task Force nabs habitual bike thief, juvenile; four stolen bikes recovered in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: The Commissioner’s Task Force, West Zone, arrested a habitual bike offender and a child in conflict with law (CCL) and recovered four stolen two wheelers valued at ₹6.5 lakh, police said.

The accused was identified as Merishetty Nageshwar Rao, 23, of Vidya Nagar, Nallakunta. The juvenile was not named. The arrests were made on January 8, 2026, during patrols in the SR Nagar limits of Hyderabad, following credible information.

Four vehicles seized across Cyberabad police limits

Police said the duo had targeted two-wheelers across Cyberabad Commissionerate limits. The seized vehicles include a Honda Dio (TS08HP4286) and a Yamaha R15M (TS31K4448) from Miyapur police station limits, a Yamaha R15 (AP40AM0604) from Chanda Nagar, and an Avenis (AP39QF6843) from Gachibowli.

Accused confessed to four theft cases

Investigators said the accused confessed to four cases registered under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. These include Crime Nos. 36/2026 and 49/2026 of Miyapur police station, Crime No. 1508/2025 of Chanda Nagar police station, and Crime No. 47/2026 of Gachibowli police station.

Online betting habit cited as motive

According to police, Nageshwar Rao is a habitual offender previously involved in property offences. He allegedly befriended the juvenile and developed an addiction to online cricket betting. To fund a lavish lifestyle, the pair allegedly planned and executed automobile thefts, fleeing with the stolen vehicles and spending the proceeds.

The arrests were made under the supervision of Inspector Ch Yadender and Sub Inspector D Ravi Raj of the West Zone Task Force. Addl Deputy Commissioner of Police MD Iqbal Siddique said the operation was carried out by the West Zone and South West Zone teams.
