HYDERABAD:  Telangana archer Taniparthi Chikitha won two gold medals in compound archery at the Asian Games on Wednesday, helping India secure its first quota place for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics in the discipline.

Chikitha first teamed up with Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Prithika Pradeep to beat China 238-234 in the women’s compound team final. The Indian trio’s score of 238 also equalled the world record.

The Indian team had entered the final after beating South Korea 234-233 in the semi-final. The trio also successfully defended the women’s compound team gold won by India at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou.

Chikitha and Sahil edge Korea in shoot-off

Chikitha later partnered Sahil Jadhav in the mixed compound team event and defeated South Korea in a shoot-off after the final ended 157-157.

The Indian pair scored 20 in the shoot-off, with both Chikitha and Jadhav hitting 10s. South Korea scored 19 to hand India another gold.

The victory also secured India a quota place for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, where compound archery is set to make its Olympic debut.

India subsequently completed a clean sweep of the three compound archery team gold medals at the Asian Games — women’s team, mixed team and men’s team.

The men’s compound team of Sahil Jadhav, Kusal Dalal and Ganesh Mani Ratnam beat China 238-237 in the final.

Chikitha, who represents Telangana, had earlier created history by becoming the first Indian woman to win an individual compound gold at the Under-21 World Archery Championships in 2025. She is from Sultanpur in Eligedu mandal of Peddapalli district.
