Hyderabad: The Department of Microbiology at St. Francis College for Women in Begumpet, in collaboration with Case Western Reserve University, Ohio, USA, organized an international conference on “Sustainable Nanobiotechnology: An Eco-friendly Approach” on January 10, 2025.

The conference brought together leading experts, researchers, academicians, and industry professionals to discuss sustainable solutions through nanobiotechnology.

Dr. Uma Joseph, Principal of St. Francis College for Women, inaugurated the event. In her address, she highlighted the potential of nanotechnology to address global challenges and encouraged participants to focus on innovative research that supports sustainability and societal well-being.

Dr. P. Roselin, Head of the Department of Microbiology, convened the conference. She outlined the event’s objectives and emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in advancing sustainable nanobiotechnology.

Dr. Zahoorullah S. MD, Chief Innovation Officer at Atal Incubation Centre, ALEAP, WEHUB, delivered the keynote address. He discussed how innovations in nanobiotechnology could address global issues, particularly in medicine, agriculture, and environmental conservation. His talk highlighted diagnostic technologies, non-invasive sensors, and the commercialization of new solutions.

Dr. Hameeda Bee, Associate Professor and Chairperson of the Board of Studies in the Department of Microbiology at Osmania University, served as the Guest of Honour. She presented on sustainable practices in nanobiotechnology, stressing the importance of ethical and eco-friendly approaches in scientific research and technological development.

Dr. P. Gopinath, Professor at the Department of Biosciences and Bioengineering, IIT Roorkee, joined virtually to discuss the innovative applications of nanobiotechnology. His session covered topics such as edible nanofiber coatings for extending the shelf life of produce, bio-safe coatings for pesticide removal, and nano-nutraceuticals for enhancing dietary health.

The valedictory session featured Dr. Sandeepta B, Professor and Head of the Department of Microbiology at Osmania University and Director of CFRD. She discussed nanoparticles for green solutions and their potential for environmental conservation. Dr. Sandeepta also summarized the key outcomes of the conference and suggested future research directions.
The conference attracted a diverse audience, including international students from Case Western Reserve University, local students and researchers, and industry professionals. The sessions highlighted the role of eco-friendly nanomaterials, ethical research practices, and collaboration in advancing sustainability in health, agriculture, and environmental protection.
