Hyderabad: In a shocking incident, a hidden camera was discovered inside a women’s hostel in Ameenpur, a locality in north Hyderabad. The incident came to light at Mythri Villas in Kishtareddypet on Friday. Female students from nearby engineering colleges are staying at the private hostel being run by a man named Bandaru Maheshwar.

According to reports, some students noticed a suspicious object in one of their rooms resembling a mobile phone charger. The students closely examined the object and suspected it to be a hidden camera. They immediately informed the police stating that they had discovered a suspicious object in their hostel.

Upon receiving the complaint, the police arrived at the hostel and conducted a thorough search at the premises. During the inspection, they found SIM cards hidden inside what appeared to be a mobile phone battery.

The police detained hostel owner Bandaru Maheshwar for questioning. Based on a complaint, the Ameenpur police have registered a case and an investigation is underway.

Preliminary findings revealed that no videos were found on the seized electronic chips. However, police are investigating whether Maheshwar had previously used hidden cameras to record hostel residents. According to police, the accused has been running a women’s hostel on his property for about four years.

Authorities assured the students that a comprehensive investigation will be carried out to uncover the truth, and appropriate legal action will be taken if any wrongdoing is found.

In a separate incident in January 2025, the female students of an engineering college in Medchal protested after they discovered hidden cameras in the hostel bathrooms. The students of CMR Engineering College alleged that hostel cooking staff had secretly recorded videos of them in the bathrooms.

The issue came to light when a student reportedly found a mobile phone in one of the washrooms. She claimed to have found 300 inappropriate video recordings of the hostel inmates on the phone.
