Suspended Telangana ASP booked in disproportionate assets case; ACB detects assets worth ₹5.92 crore

HYDERABAD: The Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has registered a disproportionate assets case against Nayini Bhujanga Rao, an Additional Superintendent of Police currently under suspension, alleging that he amassed assets disproportionate to his known sources of income through corrupt practices and dubious means during his service.
Searches conducted at 16 locations
The case was registered under Sections 13(1)(b) and 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, as amended in 2018. ACB officials conducted searches on June 3, 2026, at the officer’s residence and 15 other locations linked to his relatives, benamidars and associates.
During the searches, investigators found documents relating to 27.29 acres of agricultural land in Suryapet and Nalgonda districts, five open plots, two houses and a commercial building in Hyderabad.
Cash, gold and vehicles seized
The searches also led to the detection of cash amounting to about ₹3.83 lakh, bank balances of ₹8 lakh and gold ornaments weighing around 1 kg. Officials further identified a Maruti Swift and a Kia Seltos linked to the accused officer.
According to the ACB, the total value of the assets detected stands at ₹5,92,54,500. The agency said the market value of the immovable properties could be significantly higher than their documented value.
Excise officials alerted over liquor bottles
During the search of Bhujanga Rao’s residence, officials also found 20 liquor bottles. The ACB informed the Excise Department for further action, if required.
The bureau said verification of additional assets is continuing and the investigation remains underway. The accused officer is being produced before the Principal Special Judge for SPE and ACB Cases, Nampally, for judicial remand proceedings.
