Suspended CISF Constable Held in Hyderabad With 158 kg Ganja Worth ₹79 Lakh

HYDERABAD: Police arrested a suspended Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) constable in Hyderabad after seizing 158 kg of ganja worth ₹79 lakh from a car allegedly used for interstate drug trafficking.
The Commissioner’s Task Force, Jubilee Hills Zone Team, and SR Nagar police arrested 39-year-old Panagudu Shiva Krishna near Nature Cure Hospital in SR Nagar on Monday night. Officers also seized the car and three mobile phones allegedly used in the operation.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, DCP (Commissioner’s Task Force) Gaikwad Vaibhav Raghunath said Shiva Krishna hails from Mothugudem village in Andhra Pradesh’s Alluri Sitharama Raju district and had been living in Kerala.
Former CISF constable under scanner
Shiva Krishna joined the CISF in 2009 and later served on deputation with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).
Police said financial problems pushed him into the narcotics trade. Investigators suspect he transported ganja on a commission basis and supplied interstate peddlers in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra.
According to police, he obtained the contraband through a network of cultivators and suppliers in Odisha. He allegedly worked as a courier and distributor, moving large quantities of ganja across state borders.
Investigators believe he played a role in a larger interstate drug trafficking network. They are now examining his links with other suppliers and peddlers.
Identity card allegedly used to avoid scrutiny
Police alleged that Shiva Krishna used his CISF identity card to avoid scrutiny while transporting narcotics. Whenever officers stopped him at checkpoints, he allegedly showed the card to escape detailed inspections.
Investigators said this tactic helped him move contraband across several states without raising suspicion.
Earlier jailed in NDPS case
Dammapet police in Bhadradri Kothagudem district arrested Shiva Krishna in 2025 under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Authorities lodged him in Khammam jail and later suspended him from service. Investigators alleged that he resumed drug trafficking after his release and continued supplying ganja to interstate peddlers despite facing criminal charges.
Hyderabad police described drug trafficking as a major threat to society, especially to young people. They urged citizens to share information about drug-related activities with law enforcement agencies.
Further investigation is underway.
