Telangana:Â The Supreme Court on Thursday gave the Speaker a final three weeks to decide on petitions seeking the disqualification of defecting MLAs.

The court adjourned the hearing on the disqualification petitions by three weeks, granting the Speaker additional time to take a decision.
Government cites municipal elections, ongoing hearings
Appearing for the government, counsel told the court that a hearing had been held in one MLA’s case and that proceedings against two other MLAs were under way. The counsel sought more time citing the municipal elections.
Court warns of contempt if deadline missed
The Supreme Court made it clear that failure to announce a decision within three weeks could amount to contempt of court, before deferring the matter.
