Sultan Bazar police arrest three in insurance fraud

HYDERABAD: Sultan Bazar police arrested three persons for allegedly creating forged documents and attempting to claim insurance money using the identity of a man who had died earlier.
According to Inspector G. Naresh, former employee Boda Krishna of Rajapur village in Mahabubnagar district, Star Health agent Malde Mahesh of the same village, and Star Health sales manager M. Vamsi Krishna of Almasguda allegedly conspired to commit the fraud.
Dead man’s identity allegedly used for insurance policy
Talari Venkataiah, who lived on a footpath near Chaderghat and earned a living by collecting waste paper, died after suffering an electric shock. As the deceased’s wife belonged to their native village, Boda Krishna allegedly gathered details related to Venkataiah.
After learning that the deceased did not have insurance coverage, the trio allegedly obtained an accident insurance policy in his name from Star Health in 2024.
Vigilance inquiry uncovers alleged fraud attempt
Police said the accused created documents showing that Venkataiah had died in an accident on April 28, 2025, and submitted them to Star Health to claim insurance benefits.
During an inquiry, the company found that Talari Venkataiah had actually died in 2023. Mohammed Abdul Bari, Chief Vigilance Officer at Star Health’s zonal office in Secunderabad, lodged a complaint with police on May 14.
Following an investigation conducted under the supervision of Inspector Naresh, Sub-Inspector Sairam arrested the three accused and produced them before a court on Tuesday. They were later remanded to judicial custody.
