Students protest for UGC recognition of Chakali Ilamma Women's University

Hyderabad: Students of Chakali Ilamma Mahila Visvavidyalayam (formerly Osmania University College for Women), Koti staged a protest demanding its inclusion in the University Grants Commission (UGC). The students raised concerns about the recognition of their degrees as the postgraduate batch will pass this year from the college with a non-UGC recognized certificate.

The protest was held on campus and students raised slogans demanding recognition of their degrees. They were seen holding placards with slogans such as “Education without recognition is injustice” and “Government Should Recognize Students’ Concerns.”

The final year students are worried as their university lacks UGC recognition. The previous BRS government had upgraded the institution to university status but failed to secure UGC recognition. The present Congress government renamed the university as Veeranari Chakali Ilamma Women’s University but the issue of official university status remains unresolved.

Recently, Hyderabad MP and AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi raised the issue with the chief minister’s office (CMO). In his letter, Owaisi noted that “the future of the students passing out from an unrecognised University is indeed dire.”
