HYDERABAD: A degree student died at a private swimming pool in Alwal on Sunday evening.

Police book pool management for negligence

The victim, Vaishnavi, aged about 18, was pursuing a degree course at Loyola Academy in Alwal. She was also enrolled in the National Cadet Corps Navy Wing.

Vaishnavi, daughter of Biyyaram Choudary from Jagadevpur in Siddipet district, was staying with friends at a private hostel in Saibaba Nagar.

Incident at V V Swimming Pool, Suryanagar

According to reports, she went to V V Swimming Pool at Suryanagar, Old Alwal, for practice on Sunday evening. She regularly practised from 4 pm to 5 pm.

On Sunday, she reached the pool around 4.30 pm along with Gautami and Pranitha. After the session ended, other friends came out of the pool, while Vaishnavi and Priyanka remained inside.

Vaishnavi suddenly collapsed and drowned. Reports said she did not know how to swim.

Priyanka alerted the coach and others. The management pulled her out of the water, but she was declared dead.

Police shifted the body to Gandhi Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination.

Four earlier deaths alleged at same pool

Police registered a case of negligence against the management of the swimming pool and launched an investigation.

Locals alleged that four persons had died earlier at the same facility and said it was once sealed. The pool owner is absconding.
