Telangana municipal polls schedule announced

HYDERABAD: The Telangana State Election Commissioner Rani Kumudini on Tuesday announced the schedule for municipal elections across the state.
Seven corporations, 116 municipalities to go to polls
Elections will be held to seven municipal corporations and 116 municipalities in Telangana. With the announcement, the model code of conduct came into force across the state with immediate effect.
Nominations from Tuesday; scrutiny on January 31
The process of filing nominations will begin on Tuesday and conclude on January 30. Scrutiny of nominations will be taken up on January 31, while the final date for withdrawal has been fixed as February 3.
Polling on February 11; counting on February 13
Polling will be held on February 11. If required, repolling will take place on February 12. Counting of votes is scheduled for February 13.
The election of municipal chairpersons and vice-chairpersons will be held on February 16. On the same day, elections to the posts of mayors and deputy mayors in municipal corporations will also take place.
More than 50 lakh voters are expected to exercise their franchise in these elections, which will be conducted on party symbols.
