St. Francis College hosts national seminar on synergizing biotechnology with computational and statistical biology

Hyderabad: The Department of Biotechnology at St. Francis College for Women hosted a National Seminar on “Synergizing Biotechnology with Computational and Statistical Biology for Exploratory Research.”
The seminar aimed to highlight the multidisciplinary integration of Biotechnology with statistical and computational techniques, fostering advancements in research and development.
In her inaugural address, Principal Dr. Uma Joseph emphasized that as biotechnology, computational biology, and statistical analysis rapidly advance, their synergy acts as a catalyst for groundbreaking innovations in science, healthcare, and the environment. She highlighted the crucial role of integrative scientific approaches in addressing complex biological challenges, fostering innovation in modern biosciences.
Stressing the significance of interdisciplinary collaboration, she noted that the seminar reflects the growing recognition of its importance in research. By integrating computational tools, statistical methods, and biotechnological advancements, she stated, researchers can drive breakthroughs in drug discovery, personalized medicine, agricultural advancements, and beyond.
The chief guest and keynote speaker, Dr. Gaurav Sharma, Assistant Professor at IIT Hyderabad, delivered an insightful talk titled “Bridging Biology and Data: How Data and Computation are Transforming Biotechnology Research.” He discussed the growing significance of computational tools in modern biological research and their impact on scientific breakthroughs.
Dr. Moumita Saharay, Assistant Professor at the University of Hyderabad’s Department of Systems and Computational Biology, presented on “Statistical Methods for Biological Systems,” exploring various statistical models and their applications in biological research.
A hands-on workshop, conducted by Dr. I. Rachana Kumari, Assistant Professor at Bhavan’s Vivekananda College, provided participants with practical experience in “The Role of Bioinformatics and Biostatistics in Experimental Analysis,” equipping them with essential computational and statistical tools utilized in research.
The seminar brought together researchers, academics, and students, fostering discussions on emerging approaches and developments in biotechnology and related computational fields. The event concluded with an engaging Q&A session, where experts addressed inquiries from enthusiastic attendees.
