Rajamouli earns rare honour in France
Hyderabad : Indian filmmaker S. S. Rajamouli has received another major international honour after his name was permanently added to the Mur des Cinéastes (Wall of Filmmakers) at the prestigious Institut Lumière in Lyon, France. The recognition places him alongside some of world cinema’s most celebrated directors.
Name joins global cinema legends
Rajamouli recently visited the Lumière Museum and the screening room where Eega and RRR were earlier screened to packed audiences. During the visit, Thierry Frémaux, Director of the Institut Lumière and the Cannes Film Festival, welcomed the filmmaker and led him to the institute’s renowned Wall of Filmmakers.
The filmmaker was then surprised with the unveiling of a commemorative plaque bearing his name. The wall also features plaques honouring renowned directors including Martin Scorsese, Clint Eastwood, Quentin Tarantino and Francis Ford Coppola.
Rajamouli says honour will remain a lifelong memory
Sharing the moment on social media, Rajamouli said he was overwhelmed by the recognition and described it as a memory he would cherish for life. He thanked the Institut Lumière for the honour and said he felt “deeply, deeply humbled”.
The Institut Lumière, established in Lyon in memory of the Lumière brothers, is regarded as one of the world’s most significant institutions dedicated to the history of cinema. Rajamouli’s inclusion on its Wall of Filmmakers is being viewed as another milestone for Indian cinema on the global stage.
