Actor Srikanth Iyengar apologises for remarks on Mahatma Gandhi

HYDERABAD: Actor Srikanth Iyengar, who recently made objectionable remarks about Mahatma Gandhi, has issued an apology. In a video posted on social media, he said his earlier post had hurt many people’s sentiments and sought their forgiveness.
Complaint filed with cyber police and MAA president Manchu Vishnu
Iyengar’s comments drew widespread criticism online. Telangana MLC Balmuri Venkat lodged a complaint with the Cyber Cell on Saturday, demanding action against the actor. He also submitted a complaint to Movie Artistes’ Association (MAA) president Manchu Vishnu on Sunday, seeking Iyengar’s suspension from the association.
Venkat alleged that Iyengar distorted history for publicity and hurt the sentiments of those who follow Gandhi’s ideals. He urged MAA to take stern disciplinary action and called upon senior film personalities to condemn the remarks.
Amid mounting criticism, Iyengar said he regretted his earlier statement and apologised to everyone whose feelings were hurt.
