Hyderabad: Residents of Sri Nagar Colony, Hyderabad’s most expensive residential area, are expressing frustration over deteriorating road conditions that have been ongoing for the past four months. The road, which was excavated for pipeline work, remains in disrepair, leading to significant safety hazards and inconvenience for local commuters.

Speaking with the Hyderabad Mail, Nikhil, a software engineer and resident of the area, described the increasingly dire situation following the completion of an excavation. He said, “The road was dug up around four months ago for pipeline installation. Although the pipeline work was finished, the road was left in a deplorable state. For the past four months, residents have had to navigate this damaged and dangerous road.”

The onset of the rainy season has worsened the problem, with sand and debris now covering much of the road. “The road condition has worsened significantly,” Nikhil added. “Just recently, I witnessed a man falling into an open manhole, which highlighted the urgent need for repairs. The current state of the road poses a risk to the safety of commuters and has led to numerous accidents and traffic congestion.”

Nikhil has appealed to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) for immediate action. “The GHMC should prioritise repairing the road and addressing the numerous potholes,” he urged. “Ensuring the safety and convenience of residents is crucial, especially during the rainy season when hazards are magnified. Prompt repairs will not only prevent accidents but also alleviate traffic congestion and improve the overall quality of life in the area.”

In an effort to draw attention to the issue, Nikhil took to the social media platform ‘X,’ formerly Twitter, tagging both the Water Board and GHMC. He posted, “Hi Team, this road was excavated about 4 months ago for pipeline work. Although the work was completed, the road was left without any repairs. We have been enduring this damaged road for the past 4 months. Please address this issue.”

The residents are eagerly awaiting swift action from the authorities to rectify the situation and restore safety to their area.
