Prathyangira Cinemas And Yorkcinemas Settle North America Dispute Amicably

HYDERABAD: The high-stakes world of South Indian film distribution in North America was thrust into the spotlight as two rival distributors traded public accusations, igniting a whirlwind drama that was resolved almost as quickly as it began.

The dispute began when Prathyangira Cinemas publicly accused a major North American competitor of unethical business practices and intimidation.

Allegations of unrest and unethical demands

Prathyangira Cinemas claimed its rival caused disruptions at film screenings over the past decade, including property damage, due to a refusal to collaborate. These allegations challenge the rival’s claims of industry integrity.

In response, Prathyangira dismissed the rival’s claims of ethical conduct, firmly denying any inflation of Canadian sales figures and requesting evidence to support the accusations.

“We would like to reiterate that the ‘feeling is mutual’,” it stated, breaking ties and saying Prathyangira Cinemas is “driven by passion, values, and ethics.”

Earlier, the company announced a new independent team in Canada, led by Sumanth Sunkara, and stated that any incidents during upcoming film screenings, including the Pawan Kalyan film ‘OG,’ would prompt legal action.

Amicable resolution

The public feud, which caused concern within the industry and among moviegoers, was resolved following discussions between the two parties. Both distributors agreed to reinstate scheduled screenings and collaborate moving forward.

Shortly after, YorkCinemas addressed a message to its patrons. The statement announced, “All our issues with @PrathyangiraUS are resolved amicably. And all their titles will start playing at our venues with immediate effect.”

The note listed titles like Dude, TelusuKadha, KRamp, and a Bahubali re-release that would now play at venues like @YorkCinemas.

For now, fans in Canada can expect to see the scheduled films without further disruption, as the two companies have chosen collaboration over public confrontation.
