What is Poppy Straw?
Poppy straw is the dried plant material left after opium is extracted from poppy pods. Although it contains a small amount of morphine, consuming large amounts of poppy straw can lead to dangerous effects such as respiratory depression, coma, or even death. It is often consumed by mixing it with water, lemon, or tea, with users seeking mild analgesic or sedative effects. As per the NDPS Act, the possession, sale, or use of poppy straw without a valid license is illegal and punishable by law.
